Mirowitz workshops for parents on making healthy choices for children

Parents are invited to enjoy a night out and learn how they can help their children develop a perfect blend of healthy habits during a workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. May 1 at Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School, 348 South Mason Road. The workshop will include:

• Healthy cooking demonstrations using staples from your pantry (led by chef Kiersten Firquain of Bistro Kids and dietician Kathy Mora

• Tackling Nature Deficit Disorder: Why we need to spend more time outside (led by outdoor education specialists Lizzie Berkowitz and Sharon Anibal

• The Family Meal—for busy families (led by Jenny Hoffman-Mentle)

• TMI (Too Much Information): Talking to your kids about the news (led by Dr. Andy Pomerantz and Dr. Andy Zuckerman)

• What’s Jewish about “Locally Grown”?  (led by Rabbi Andy Kastner of St. Louis Hillel)

• A taste-test of healthy snacks, meal menus, recipes.

The workshop is presented in partnership by Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School and Bistro Kids farm-to-school lunch program as a service to the community. The program is offered free of charge and participants will leave with a toolkit of recipes, ideas and give-aways.
