The community is invited to attend a memorial service for I.E. Millstone at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 31 at United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road in Chesterfield, according to a statement from Millstone’s family last week.
“We also wish to express our profound gratitude to all of the people in St. Louis, around the country, and beyond who have come forward with expressions of love and concern,” the family said in the statement. “The outpouring represents the highest possible tribute to the man we love so much. We are deeply appreciative.”
Millstone’s family reported him missing on May 16. The same day, witnesses reported an elderly man jumped off the Daniel Boone Bridge into the Missouri River.
A spokesman for the Missouri Water Patrol said the search for Millstone is ongoing, but has been hampered by high water levels.
Millstone, who was 102, has been widely praised for his philanthropy and community leadership.
He founded Millstone Construction Co., which built Busch Stadium II as well as the Mercantile Tower and Laclede Town. But he is best known in the St. Louis Jewish community for his strong support of numerous Jewish institutions, among them the Jewish Community Center of St. Louis. Millstone is the namesake of the 108-acre Jewish community campus that Millstone purchased during the 1950s.
