JSU seeks applicants for scholarships supporting summer programs in Israel

Two scholarship funds administered by the Jewish Student Union of St. Louis are seeking teenage applicants interested in JSU’s summer Israel travel programs.

The Hy C. Miller and the Meira Bresler Riemer Israel scholarship funds enable teens to participate in any of JSU’s Israel summer programs, which provide opportunities to explore Jewish identity and a relationship with Israel.

The namesakes of the two funds were cousins. Although separated by many decades in age, each had “an unyielding love and passion for Judaism and Israel,” according to JSU’s d,irector Rabbi Mike Rovinsky. The Hy C. Miller Fund was established by his son and daughter-in-law, Yale and Gail Miller.

“We have seen [JSU’s] tremendous success in reaching unaffiliated and underengaged Jewish teens throughout the community and inspiring them to take responsibility for their own Jewish identity and their connection to Israel,” said Yale Miller, prompting the couple to focus their support on programs like JSU.

The Meira Bresler Riemer Israel Fund was established by her husband, Danny, along with her parents, Murray and Eva Gail Bresler, last year.

“Meira was a dynamic and inspirational young leader who exuded love for Judaism and Israel,” Rovinsky said. “Her magnetic personality and her love and acceptance of all Jews made her the Pied Piper of Jewish youth literally around the world.”
