JOLT to begin 8-session trimester

Jewish Opportunities & Learning for Teens is about to begin its 6th year of interactive programming where teens in grades 8-12 come together to learn and socialize on Thursday nights.  This year, JOLT will stress the value of community service by providing an opportunity to help others in conjunction with registration.

Trimester One classes begin Thursday, Oct. 3.  New classes include:

• Talmud for Teens – Study meaningful texts and have great dialogue that make you think.

• Legacies of the Holocaust – Meet Holocaust survivors, their children and grandchildren. Hear their experiences and journeys before, during and after the Holocaust. Learn how their struggle influenced future generations within the families.

• Wizardry of Judaism – Understand the magical connection of the Harry Potter series to Judaism, exploring ethics, morals and symbolism.

• Who Said That – Meet eight great rabbis whose work shaped Judaism as we know it.  Discover how words and contributions affect us today.

• Sababah… “Cool” Connections Continue – Share your passion for Israel while expanding your connection to the Jewish Homeland.  Explore issues that challenge Israel and its diverse population through interactive activities and discussion.

Popular classes returning from last year include:

• Hebrew Chat Room – Keep your Hebrew fresh as you expand your vocabulary and conversation skills.

• Jews “R” News – Use a Jewish lens to analyze current events.

• Israel through Ciné – Explore Israeli films and the multimedia arts through an educational portal.

• Teens Take Action – Participate in interactive service learning both inside and outside the classroom.  Emerging Leaders – Learn how to be an effective leader in your organization.
