JFed collecting donations for Joplin tornado relief
Published May 25, 2011
As rescue workers continue to search for survivors, Jewish Federation has opened a mailbox to provide emergency assistance to victims of the Joplin, Mo. tornado.
Joplin has a small Jewish community of approximately 50 individuals. Its only synagogue, United Hebrew Congregation, was not damaged. However, Federation has learned that a number of congregants live in the affected area, and at least one person has lost everything. The congregation is served by student Rabbi Arielle Boxman, from Hebrew Union College, who is travelling to Joplin.
The Jewish Federations in St. Louis, Kansas City, the Jewish Federations of North America and Hebrew Union College (HUC) are monitoring conditions and will focus assistance on the most pressing needs. For more information or to contribute, visit www.jewishinstlouis.org/joplin.
