The Jewish War Veterans will hold their annual Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. Sunday May, 25 at the Jewish Federation Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive. Nusach Hari B’nai Zion’s Rabbi Ze’ev Smason and Cantor Ethan Schuman will lead the services. Members of Jewish War Veterans Post 644 and Post 346 and the Women’s Auxiliary Post 644 will participate in reading the names of deceased Jewish Veterans who sacrificed for their country in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan. Local veterans who died this year will be remembered. Taps will be sounded at the conclusion of the service. The event is free and open to the public.
Prior to the service, Scout Master Earl Binder will lead more than 200 Boy Scouts to St. Louis’ Jewish cemeteries to place flags at each veteran’s grave. Five thousand flags will be distributed. The Boy Scout salutes the veteran and thanks the veteran for his or her service.
The Boy Scouts also will hold a food drive for the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry as part of the Memorial Day Jewish War Veterans Service. Barrels will be placed in the atrium of the Federation building. People attending the Memorial Day Jewish War Veterans Service are urged to bring canned food donations.
