‘Jewish Mystic Jam’ seeks storytelling contest entries
Published November 6, 2014
The Jewish Community Center and St. Louis Rabbinical Association (SLRA) are seeking entries for a new storytelling contest, which will be part of the second annual Jewish Mystic Jam II in January.
Stories must have some Jewish relevance and have the potential to captivate listeners. Entries are submitted by calling the voicemail at 314-442-3492 and leaving a two-minute version of the story, along with the caller’s name and contact information. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 8. Two winners will be selected based on both the content of their story and their storytelling skills. Individuals must be available and willing to tell their story in front of a live audience at the Jewish Mystic Jam II event.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Performing Arts Center at the Jewish Community Center, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. Attendees will experience a drum circle and musical groups, niggunim (melodies), mindfulness and Talmud — an interactive smorgasbord of music, stories and more.
The event’s entertainers and facilitators include Andrew Bolinger and Leslie Caplan, Rabbi James Stone Goodman, Robert Fishbone, Rabbi Noah Arnow, Howard Schwartz, Maharat Rori Picker Neiss and more.
“It promises to be a magical evening of Jewish music, spirituality and entertainment with something for everyone,” says Goodman, current president of SLRA and rabbi at Neve Shalom Congregation.
Tickets at $15 in advance, $20 at the door include wine, coffee cart and nosh, and are available at brownpapertickets.com. For more information, contact Diane Maier at [email protected] or 314-442-3190. Coordinated in part by the Helene Mirowitz Center of Jewish Community Life at the JCC.
