On Sunday, Aug. 20, Kol Rinah will hold Summerfest from 3 to 6:30 p.m., outside the synagogue at 7701 Maryland Avenue in Clayton. The live music schedule features Karen Kern (kid’s concert) at 3:30 p.m., the Will Soll Trio at 4:30 p.m., and Shakshuka, a local band that performs music from Israel, America, Ukraine and Russia, at 5:30 p.m.

On Aug. 26 and 27, Tower Grove Park in south St. Louis will host the Festival of Nations. The celebration of music, food, art and culture from around the world attracts more than 100,000 people. Israel is one of the 75 nations whose food and music will be featured.

Shakshuka will once again perform and entertain festival-goers. An Israeli cooking demonstration is also planned, featuring Orly David Peters, founder of Habuyta, a food and cooking virtual community. In recent months, Peters has led popular Israeli cooking classes at Kitchen Conservatory in Clayton. At the Festival of Nations, she will offer a live demo and provide samples of Israeli foods.

“I want to cook something special,” Peters said. “I would like to give people a peak at different tastes and flavors.”

Festival organizers are still finalizing the schedules. To learn when and where Shakshuka will be performing and Peters will share Israeli cooking techniques, check the Festival of Nations website.
