The St. Louis Jewish Book Festival kicks off the new year with an important “Bookend” event featuring award-winning journalist and author Brian Joseph. On Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., Joseph will discuss his book “Vegas Concierge: Sex Trafficking, Hip Hop, and Corruption in America” at the Jewish Community Center’s Arts & Education Building near Creve Coeur.
Joseph, who has spent nearly two decades as an investigative journalist, uses his latest book to peel back the glitzy veneer of Las Vegas, exposing the dark realities of sex trafficking, systemic corruption, and the cultural influences that sustain them. Known for his work at outlets like the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Sacramento Bee, Joseph earned the prestigious George Polk Award for his dedication to uncovering difficult truths.
“It’s not just about Las Vegas—it’s about understanding the systems that enable trafficking and what can be done to dismantle them,” Joseph said.
The evening will include a discussion led by Joseph, who will share insights from his reporting, explore the challenges faced by trafficking survivors, and examine how communities can fight back. A Q&A session will follow, offering attendees the opportunity to ask questions and engage in the conversation.
This event is sponsored by the National Council for Jewish Women- St. Louis, whose advocacy work has long focused on combatting human trafficking.
