JCC names new director of Nishmah and hires new head of marketing

The Jewish Community Center has hired Lisa Marucci as its director of marketing and communication and Sara Winkleman as director of Nishmah: The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Project. Marucci assumes her position on Monday; Winkelman on Aug. 1.

Marucci most recently was employed as senior director of marketing at the St. Louis Science Center. She replaces Margaret Schatz, who resigned from the JCC marketing job in March.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Lisa to the J staff.  She brings a wealth of experience having worked in a large, local not-for-profit (like the Science Center),” said Lynn Wittels, president and CEO of the JCC.  “We’re eager to put her to work to build both our membership base as well as participation in our myriad programs that make the J such a special community resource.”

Wittels said Marucci will be responsible for all marketing and communication efforts -building equity in the JCC’s various program departments and “building on the center’s new brand that focuses on excellence across all that we do.”  She will lead a team of five that is responsible for all materials that are produced by the agency, including more than 100 jobs per month as well as the JCC’s website, and all social media efforts.

Winkelman has been an active volunteer and participant in Nishmah programming, serving as one of the founding Board Members of Nishmah and serving on several Nishmah planning committees, such as the Women’s Shabbat Retreat and Strategic Planning Committee. She replaces Ronit Sherwin, who accepted a position at the University of Delewar Hillel.

“We cannot be more happy to have Sara lead Nishmah at this critical point in our history as we join the JCC family as a new program department,” said newly installed Nishmah Chairperson Margie Hartman. “Sara has an intimate understanding and knowledge of the mission and vision of Nishmah. This passion for Nishmah, combined with her 20-plus years of professional experience working in the Jewish Community made her the obvious choice to lead us into the future.”
