JCC grand opening May 3

The much anticipated grand opening of the Jewish Community Center’s (JCC) new family fitness complex is scheduled for May 3 (www.newjstl.com). Named after its primary donors, Michael and Carol Staenberg, the Staenberg Family Complex is a state-of-the-art fitness center located at the I.E. Millstone Jewish Community Campus in Creve Coeur.

The community is invited to attend all opening festivities, which kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 3 with outdoor activities, including a stilt walker, face painting, a balloon sculpting clown, a D.J., hula-hoop contests and more.

The doors will open at 1:30 p.m. for a VIP ceremony in the gymnasium, which include the symbolic passing of the torch between Staenberg and I.E. Millstone. The 102-year-old Millstone donated 110 acres of land to the JCC in 1961 as part of his vision for the future of the agency. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and let them “make history” at the JCC by creating a hand print ceramic tile. The tiles will be incorporated into the renovation of the Wohl Building on the JCC’s Millstone campus. Free tours of the new facility also will be available.

Everyone is invited to try the J for free during a special Open House week, May 10-17.

The new facility, which officially opens May 4, will nearly double the size of the JCC’s original fitness center to 16,126-square-feet and will feature six fitness studios, all new state-of-the-art exercise equipment, flat screen televisions, and cardiovascular monitors. Other amenities include a spa with private massage rooms, children’s fitness areas, new locker rooms with steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools, and family changing areas. There will also be a new two-court basketball gym, new racquetball and squash courts, and a new indoor aquatics center. An onsite restaurant, the J Caf é, will serve healthy fare. Wi-Fi will be available throughout the entire JCC campus. For more information on the new facility or other activities, visit www.newjstl.com or call 314- 432-5700.
