The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum, the St. Louis Jewish Community Center, the Staenberg Family Foundation and the Jewish Federation of St. Louis invite the public to a “behind-the-scenes” panel discussion with key cast and crew members of The Muny production of “Fiddler on the Roof” on Sunday, July 21, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Holocaust Museum. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased HERE.
Leading actors Adam Heller (Tevye), Jill Abramovitz (Golde), Cheryl Stern (Yente), Samantha Massell (Tzeitel) and the dialect and cultural coach, Barrie Kreinik, will discuss their experiences on set and their thoughts on the relevance of “Fiddler” in today’s social setting. After the panel, the community is invited to purchase Muny tickets to see the production at 8:15 p.m. Buy Muny tickets HERE.
The J’s Chief Jewish Engagement Officer, Rabbi Brad Horwitz, has recently been collaborating with the cast and crew of “Fiddler” as their rabbinic consultant. As the directors and managers focus on sets, costumes and dialects, they turn to Horwitz to ensure that they authentically represent Jewish culture in the upcoming production set to run July 19-25.
“It has been fun and enriching to see all of the magic from behind the scenes. I now have a deeper appreciation for the amazing talented professionals who are involved in putting a show of this size and magnitude together,” said Horwitz, who will also take part in the panel discussion.
He said he is especially honored by The Muny’s dedication to speaking to the current climate surrounding the local Jewish community as they collaborate and is excited to help with the upcoming community night.
“With the rise in antisemitism, this production of ‘Fiddler’ provides a special opportunity to shed a positive light on Jewish tradition and culture for our St. Louis community,” Horwitz said.
