The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant in the amount of $6,677 to the Holocaust Museum and Learning Center in support of a four-day education institute in July 2014 titled “Using Testimony to Teach the History of the Holocaust.” The MHC is the only statewide agency devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
Museum personnel will be working in conjunction with the state Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, National Churchill Museum, and Midwest Holocaust Education Center to stage the conference at the University of Missouri–Columbia.
The institute is intended to serve 40 middle and secondary public, private and parochial teachers whose responsibilities include history or literature covering modern world history, persecution and/or genocide, cultural awareness, teaching tolerance or the human experience in general.
The Holocaust Museum is a department of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis. The Holocaust Commission was established under Governor Matt Blunt in 2006.
