The Jewish Community Relations Council will host “The American Dream Deferred: One Family’s Incarceration During WWII” on Sunday, August 20, 2023. This community event, co-sponsored by the Newmark Institute at JCRC St. Louis, the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum, and Japanese American Citizens League, will include a guided tour of the Museum followed by a presentation from Robin Hattori on her family’s incarceration during World War II.
This special event is part of the Jewish and Asian American Dialogue Group, a program of the Newmark Institute at JCRC. Rabbi Elizabeth Hersh, Chair of the Newmark Institute, offered this insight why this program is of importance to both the Jewish and Asian American communities here in St. Louis:
“The Newmark Institute is dedicated to advancing pluralism, including fostering dialogue between diverse groups of people. Our Jewish and Asian American Dialogue Group, established in 2022, grew from this commitment, particularly in response to both rising antisemitism and anti-Asian hate crimes. After a year of meeting, we have embraced the positive approaches to life our two groups enjoy and it has been a blessing to have new friends and partners. We are so pleased to bring this program to the wider community and have the opportunity to learn from each other.”
