Help sought in finding missing teen

BY MIKE SHERWIN, ASSISTANT EDITOR

A Clayton teen has been missing since Oct. 29, leaving her parents searching for help in finding her whereabouts. Emily Graeber, 15, was last seen in the Fisherman’s Wharf area of San Francisco. Her parents, Marsha and Kenneth Graeber, are looking for help from anyone with connections in San Francisco, who might be able to assist in the search, according to an email sent by Rabbi Susan Talve to members of Central Reform Congregation.

The Graebers are members of CRC.

The family is particularly looking for people in the San Francisco area who have connections with law enforcement or government officials, people working in homeless services (including shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, safe houses or clothing banks) or anyone in the San Francisco area willing to distribute flyers, the email stated.

Rabbi Talve made an appeal to families who might know of Emily’s whereabouts. “If you think your child knows anyone who Emily might contact, please urge your child to come forward. Tell your child that Emily will not be sent back to the school in Utah. Please help your child understand that the principle of “saving a life ” must outweigh the teenage code of not telling on each other, ” Talve wrote.

Emily Graeber boarded a Southwest Airlines flight at the East Terminal of Lambert Airport on Oct. 29. She was supposed to fly to Salt Lake City to return to the Island View Residential Treatment Facility in Syracuse, according to KSL TV, the Salt Lake City NBC affiliate.

However, authorities believe she stayed on the plane, which then headed on to Oakland, Calif. Emily Graeber apparently befriended someone on the flight who provided her transportation to San Francisco, according to a ShawnAlert released by the Shawn Hornbeck Foundation.

ShawnAlerts are issued for children missing from Missouri or Illinois who do not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.

The ShawnAlert included the following statement from Kenneth and Marsha Graeber: “Our primary objective is Emily’s safety. While there are law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions investigating and working to help us, as her parents we feel the need to do all we can to help her come home. We love our daughter and bringing her home safely is all that matters, ” the statement said.

In her email to CRC, Talve wrote, “The Graebers are a wonderful and loving family. I pray that our CRC network will join with networks across the nation to provide the loving arms to bring Emily to safety. I keep praying that there are angels out there who are watching out for her. Our job is to get the attention of anyone who might possibly help and tell them about our Emily. “
