Hadassah co-sponsors discussion on stem cells

Advances in stem cell research are announced almost daily, but rarely is the science explained in a way that is easily understood. Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving Cures and the St. Louis chapter of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, hope to change that with a free public program from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 at The Center of Clayton, 50 Gay Avenue.

During “The Quest for Cures: Stem Cells and a Healthier Tomorrow,” Dr. Ben Borowsky, professor emeritus at Washington University School of Medicine, will review the different types of stem cells and the advantages and challenges of each. He’ll also discuss recent advances made against diabetes, spinal cord injury, macular degeneration and other afflictions. Questions will be taken after the program, and light refreshments and beverages will be served. Interested parties should call 314-993-1900 for more information.
