Former St. Louisan to be ordained

On Sunday, June 12, Joshua Jacobs-Velde, son of Michael and Laurie Vander Velde and grandson of Muriel Gilberg and the late Samuel Gilberg, will be ordained as a Rabbi at the graduation ceremonies of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC) in Wyncote, Pa.  Jacobs-Velde will also receive a master of arts degree in Hebrew Letters.  He will join his wife, Rabbi Daria Jacobs-Velde, at Congregation Ohev Tzedek in Youngstown, Ohio where they will share the rabbinic leadership of the synagogue.  While at RRC, Jacobs-Velde received scholarship support from the Jewish Community Foundation of St. Louis. He became a bar mitzvah at United Hebrew Congregation. He graduated high school from John Burroughs School, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and a master’s in peace studies from the University of Notre Dame.
