Film inspires age 65+ speed dating event

The documentary ‘The Age of Love’ focuses on a group of older adults (ages 70 to 90) wading into the world of speed dating. The Jewish Film Society and Covenant Place have partnered to screen the documentary and hold — a month later — a local speed dating event for those 65 and older. Photo: Steven Loring

The St. Louis Jewish Film Festival’s Jewish Film Society and Covenant Place will present a screening of a new documentary, “The Age of Love,” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 at the Jewish Community Center Arts and Education Building, 2 Millstone Campus Drive. Tickets are $10 for the general public and free to Jewish Film Society Members.

The film follows 30 men and women in their 70s, 80s and 90s as they explore the world of speed dating for the first time. Filmmaker Steven Loring follows participants as they ponder whether or not they should participate, their hopes and fears as they go through the process and the actual dates which occur after the speed dating event.

One month later, at 5 p.m. on Oct. 25, St Louisans ages 65 to 90 are invited to a real speed dating event modeled after the one in the film, held at the JCC Arts & Education Building. The organizers are seeking partners in the community to help enlist participants.
