Federation and AJC present next SH’MA: Listen! Speaker Series
Published November 21, 2014
What comes after Gaza? Jewish Federation of St. Louis and AJC invite the community to a special presentation with Matthew Kalman, a British foreign correspondent based in Jerusalem, who will discuss strategic realities for Israel after Operation Protective Edge.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at Sweetology, 9214 Clayton Road. A light reception will precede the formal program; dietary laws observed.
Kalman explains that the Netanyahu government is facing a number of strategic challenges as a result of the military operation against Hamas in Gaza during the summer. His presentation will discuss whether the goals of the operation were met, what spillover effect the operation is having on the Israeli political scene, what the prospects are for a negotiated peace and how Israel’s relationships with its allies and foes have been affected.
Former editor-in-chief of “The Jerusalem Report,” Kalman is a columnist at Haaretz and co-author of “The Murder of Yasser Arafat” and “Psychobibi: Who is Israel’s Prime Minister and Why Does He Want to Fail?” He has reported on the Middle East for Time, Newsweek, USA Today and the Boston Globe. His first novel Moses Takes a Bath will be published in 2015.
