‘Everyday Holiness’ is topic of Aish talk
Published May 21, 2007
Author Alan Morinis will discuss practical themes from his new book, Everyday Holiness: The Jewish Spiritual Path of Mussar on Thursday evening May 31 at 7:30 p.m. Morinis’s lecture closes out this year’s St. Louis Jewish Speaker’s Series presented by Aish HaTorah.
Morinis is an anthropologist, a Rhodes Scholar, an award-winning television and film producer, student of spiritual traditions, and the author of Climbing Jacob’s Ladder, which Spirituality and Health Magazine voted its “Book of the Year.” Founder and director of The Mussar Institute, he has been a student of the Mussar tradition since 1997, studying under Rabbi Yechiel Yitzchok Perr. Morinis lives in Vancouver with his wife and two daughters.
Morinis writes, “The conclusion the masters of Mussar have drawn is simple yet profoundly useful: Identify those emotions, desires, and moral qualities where you tend to veer toward the extreme (whether that means too much or too little of any particular quality) then undertake the spiritual practice to bring those traits into the healthy mid-range. The result will be that the innate light of your radiant soul will be liberated to shine into your life.”
This program is the annual Mark Raiffie Memorial lecture and will be held in the Mark Raiffie Multipurpose room of the Aish HaTorah Center 457 N. Woods Mill Rd. in Chesterfield.
The lecture is free and open to the community. Refreshments will be served.
