Event supports Linda T. Russ Memorial Fund

Crossroads College Preparatory School will be holding its third annual trivia night on Feb. 9 to support the Linda T. Russ Memorial Fund. Linda Russ, a resident of University City and an impassioned social activist for the Jewish community and the elderly, passed away in September, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.

“Linda’s son Ben was a member of our chess team,” says Dr. Howard Granok, chair of the science department at Crossroads College Prep, as well as the school’s chess coach.

Ms. Russ believed that other students could also benefit from learning and playing chess, so in 2004 she set up an endowment fund at the school to support the chess program.

Approximately 40 percent of Crossroads College Preparatory School students receive financial assistance.

The Linda T. Russ Memorial fund provides assistance for students who wish to participate in chess.
