The H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy will honor individuals in the community and raise money for the school’s scholarship fund during its upcoming annual banquet and auction.
The school invites the community to “Our Academy Awards,” which will be held on Sunday, April 6 at the Grand Hyatt at Union Station, beginning at 5 p.m.
The event’s chairperson, Debby Schuman, said the school will honor Stuart and Betsy Zimbalist and will bestow the Samuel Cherrick Community Service Award to Dr. Greg Storch and State Rep. Rachel Storch.
In addition, the school will honor Lenny Kohn with an alumni award, Schuman said.
Students from Epstein will be front and center at the event, she said.
The co-presidents of the eighth grade will speak at the banquet, and the Epstein children’s choir will perform. Artwork made by Epstein Hebrew Academy students will be displayed as well.
“Since it’s our own Academy Awards, all the kids are stars,” Schuman said.
“This is the school’s main fundraiser for the year,” said Schuman. “We’re hoping to draw up to 400 people for what will be a really wonderful event.”
Schuman said she has been involved with planning previous banquets, this is the first time she is chairing the annual Epstein event.
“I’ve got a soft spot for this school, and this event,” said Schuman, whose five children have all attended Epstein Hebrew Academy.
Schuman said the event will include a gala auction, including an Orlando vacation package.
