H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy has listed for sale its property on Warson Road.

The Orthodox Jewish day school, at 1138 N. Warson Road, does not include an asking price in its listing but describes it as a plot “primed for redevelopment,” or “an opportunity for a school looking for a new location or for existing users.”

The move comes as the St. Louis County Economic Development partnership works to develop what it’s calling the 39 North plant science district around the nearby Danforth Plant Science Center and Monsanto campus. The partnership aims to build trails and pedestrian paths in the area. It recently accepted a $4 million federal grant to redesign the interchange at Olive and Lindbergh boulevards.

“As the demand for redevelopment sites is strong in this area, we have decided to be proactive and solicit bids to allow us the opportunity to relocate to a right-sized building for our current needs,” Melanie Winograd, Epstein president stated in an email. “We are in the process of reviewing spaces and will be excited to share that news with the community once we have secured the most optimal destination for our precious students.”

The school has been located at the eight-acre property since 1961. It features classrooms, two playgrounds, a gymnasium, cafeteria and library, according to the listing. The campus had also housed Louis and Sarah Block Yeshiva High School, which closed in 2016.

Winograd said that Epstein would continue at its current location for the 2018-2019 school year. She mentioned that Epstein has completed “a multi-year transformation” of its English and language arts program and is plan- ning an overhaul of its math and sci- ence programs for the coming school year.
