Epstein Hebrew Academy holds Annual Scholarship Banquet
Published April 24, 2013
The Epstein Hebrew Academy will hold its Annual Scholarship Banquet Tuesday, April 30 at the Clayton Sheraton Hotel. The event, entitled “Growing Together to a Brighter Future,” will take place amidst the school’s strategic planning process, which is re-visioning the school’s future. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails followed by an elaborate dinner buffet; the program will commence at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s banquet will pay tribute to Dr. Abraham M. Simon, a Jewish educator and scholar in St. Louis and one of the founders of the day school movement in the United States.
“At a time when our school is re-examining the vision of what it means to be a Jewish Day School in the 21st century, there isn’t a more appropriate honoree than Dr. Simon, one of the original Day School visionaries,” stated Rabbi Avi Greene, Head of School.
The school will also bestow the Samuel Cherrick Community Service Award to Ruth Shanker for her years of dedication to the school.
“At 94 years old, Mrs. Shanker continues to be a fixture for our students by serving lunch every Friday,” said Greene. “We are so touched by her continued commitment to the school which has spanned three generations of Epstein students including her three children, six grandchildren and great-grandson.”
Chaired by Naomi Shanker and Chanala Rubenfeld, this year’s scholarship banquet will highlight the students and programs of EHA through photos and a video presentation.
All community members are invited to attend; the cost is $125 per person and advanced reservations are appreciated. All proceeds benefit the school’s scholarship fund.
