“Lynnie’s Light for Life,” dedicated to making a difference in the lives of cancer patients, educating those at risk for developing hereditary cancer and empowering Jewish women, will take place on Sept. 4, at the Jewish Community Center near Creve Coeur. This fundraiser is focused on providing essential support to The Hamsa Wellness Community, the J’s cancer support program and Nishmah, the St. Louis Jewish Women’s Project.
The evening will feature heartfelt stories and spiritual music from Greta Rosenstock & Charlie Kramer. It will kick off at 7 p.m. at the J’s Performing Arts Center. Admission to the fundraiser is free, thanks to the generous support of sponsors and community members, but donations are appreciated.
Lynnie’s Light for Life
This year, the Lynnie’s Light for Life Committee invites everyone to donate to the event in honor of friends and loved ones who have ever faced a cancer diagnosis. For each donation made in tribute, a star will be hung upon the wall to remind us of the reason we gather each year – to educate, inspire and support those in need before, during and after a cancer diagnosis.
Cancer can be a challenging journey, not just for the patients but also for their families and loved ones. The Hamsa Wellness Community, a cancer support resource at the J, works to create a nurturing and empowering space for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and those at risk for developing cancer. Funds raised from this event will enable The Hamsa Wellness Community to continue expanding its educational and support services for both men and women dealing with many types of cancer, especially hereditary cancers. The Hamsa Wellness Community plans to offer more free programs, therapeutic activities and educational resources to those affected by cancer or at risk for developing hereditary cancer.
Nishmah, a Jewish women’s program, provides a variety of spiritual programs, all aimed at fostering personal growth and empowerment among Jewish women of different denominations. Through Lynnie’s Light for Life, Nishmah will receive the necessary financial backing to continue its vital work and reach even more women in need.
The event is named for Lynn “Lynnie” Issacs Palan, who lost her battle to breast cancer on April 10, 2018, leaving a legacy of philanthropy among her family and friends. She was a pioneer and leader of both Nishmah: The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Project and cancer support work at the J.
