Court calls for new election in Carlson-Newman race

STAFF REPORT

A new election to decide whether Stacey Newman or Susan Carlson will be state representative of the 87th District will take place on Sept. 24.

St. Louis County Circuit Judge Michael T. Jamison handed down the decision Monday after the county Board of Election Commissioners had petitioned the court for a new election. Soon after the Aug. 7 election, which was decided in favor of Newman by one vote, the commission learned that more than 100 voters had received the wrong ballot. The 87th District encompasses all or parts of several municipalities in mid-county.

Newman and Carlson were both incumbent Democratic legislators who wound up facing off in the Aug. 7 primary for the same seat because of redistricting.
