Congregation Shaare Emeth offers Adult University

April 3 and 4 are the dates for this year’s annual Adult University at Congregation Shaare Emeth. This year’s theme is “Beyond the Seder.”
The Sunday, April 3 session begins with registration and continental breakfast at 9 a.m. Rabbi Jim Bennett will kick off the day as keynote speaker. Then participants will choose one of three workshops to attend: “How to Engage Your Child and Make it Fun” with Val Toskin, “Origins of the Seder” with Rabbi Jeff Stiffman, or “Cooking for Passover” with Marsha Grazman. The morning ends at 11:30 a.m.
Monday, April 4 also begins at 9 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast. The morning’s keynote speaker will be Rabbi Andrea Goldstein. Participants will then choose one of four workshops in the first session: a discussion of “The Book Thief” with Merle Singer, “Cooking for Passover” with Marsha Grazman, “Music at our Seder” with Seth Warner and “Origins of the Seder” with Rabbi Jeffrey Stiffman.
The second session workshops are: “Miriam as a Model and Other Jewish Heroines” with Ronit Sherwin, “Who Will Get Grandma’s Seder Plate” with Marcia Mermelstein, “Beyond the Matzah” with Jewish Light food columnist Margie Kahn and “Footprints in the Water: Exodus and Archeology” with Bob Taxman.
After a lunch catered by Orlando’s, everyone will come together for closing remarks by Rabbi Bennett. The cost for Sunday only is $5, for Monday only $15 and for both days, $18. Lunch and breakfast are included in the price. Registration is due by March 28 and forms can be obtained from Vera Emmons in the Temple office, 314-569-0010 or at www.shaare-emeth.org.
