Solomon Schechter Day School (SSDS) is proud to announce that kindergarten teacher Suzanne Sloane is the 2011 recipient of the Stuart I. Raskas Outstanding Day School Teacher Award. This award is presented annually by the Central Agency for Jewish Education (CAJE) to the day school educator in St. Louis who exemplifies excellence in teaching and conveys a love of learning.
Teachers must be nominated locally for the Raskas award. Michelle Brooks, Director of School Services at CAJE, will present to Sloane a cash prize of $1,000 and a plaque of acknowledgement at the SSDS 8th grade graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 1.
“Suzanne’s dedication to SSDS and her ongoing commitment to her own personal growth and development were aspects of her nomination that stood out for the committee,” Brooks said.
Sloane’s name will be submitted by CAJE as the St. Louis nominee for the national Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award (www.grinspoonsteinhardt.org) for Excellence in Jewish Education. That award carries an additional prize of $1,000 to be used toward a Jewish educational professional development experience.
Sloane has taught at SSDS for the last 16 years. She is married to Don Sloane.
