B’nai El Congregation offers parenting program

B’nai El is hosting and co-sponsoring a new parenting program open to the community. “The Incredible Years” is a free, 10-week, psycho-educational support program designed to offer parents a chance to support each other and to learn new parenting techniques from specially trained facilitators.

The creator of the program, Carolyn Webster Stratton, wrote in her book that “parenting is probably one of the hardest jobs an adult will undertake, but probably also the one for which the least amount of training and preparation is provided.”

The program will provide parents with new tools and ideas, which encourage sensitive, nurturing and good parenting practices. By improving their skills, participating parents and their children will experience the creation of stronger bonding between them.

Two groups are starting this month. The first is for parents of toddlers. It will meet Thursday mornings from 9:15 to 11:15 am in the library at B’nai El.

Free childcare will be available by advance registration. Breakfast will be provided.

The second group is for parents of children in grades K-3. This group will meet Thursday nights, from 5:45-7:45 pm in the West Room at B’nai El and will include dinner and child care (provided by K/1 BERAH teacher, Nancy Cohen).

Program facilitators are BERAH Director Rabbi Lynn Goldstein and Daria Redel.

“The Incredible Years” is a free program. To register or for more information, call Sue Baseley or Rabbi Goldstein at 314-432-6393. Indicate which group you want to join, whether one or both parents will be participating and whether or not you will need childcare.
