B’nai Amoona Sisterhood welcomes Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg for community events

The Sisterhood of Congregation B’nai Amoona welcomes the community to attend three events planned during a Sisterhood Shabbat Torah Fund weekend featuring guest speaker Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg.  Ruttenberg has been named by Newsweek and The Daily Beast as one of 10 “rabbis to watch,” one of the top 50 most influential women rabbis, and one of the “36 Under 36” (36 most influential leaders under age 36). She is the author of “Surprised By God: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Religion,” as well as editor of “The Passionate Torah: Sex and Judaism” and “Yentl’s Revenge: The Next Wave of Jewish Feminism.”

All events will take place at B’nai Amoona, 324 S Mason Road:

• During 9 a.m. Shabbat services Saturday, Jan. 10 Ruttenberg will present a sermon focusing on Judaism’s Lessons about Leadership.

• Saturday evening adults are invited to “The Passionate Torah: Sex and Judaism” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 with an $18 minimum Torah Fund donation. Coffee and dessert will be served. Tickets are on sale and reservations for the Saturday evening program can be made by mailing a check to Barbara Shechter at Congregation B’nai Amoona, 324 S. Mason Rd, St. Louis, Mo. 63141.

• Sunday morning, Ruttenberg will speak from 11 a.m. to noon on Parenting as a Spiritual Practice.

Torah Fund donations go toward scholarships, specific projects, and to provide support to Conservative/Masorti institutions: Jewish Theological Seminary, Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies and the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies.

Ruttenberg has served as Senior Jewish Educator at Tufts Hillel as well as Campus Rabbi at Northwestern Hillel, and she currently serves as the Director of Education for Ask Big Questions, an initiative out of Hillel International.
