B’nai Amoona plans Lynn Myers Memorial Mitzvah Day Jan. 14
Published January 4, 2018
From 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 14, Congregation B’nai Amoona will host the Lynn Myers Memorial Mitzvah Day, a congregation-wide service event.
The event will honor Jan Baron for her years of service to the congregation: She has served as a past president and former executive director of the congregation, a past president of B’nai Amoona Sisterhood and former director of the B’nai Amoona Early Childhood Center. Baron is completing 27 years as a teacher in the religious school and will retire from that position at the end of the academic year.
The event will also include a free kosher luncheon with a keynote address by Maxine Clark, founder and former head of Build-A-Bear Workshop, and current “Inspirator” of the Delmar DivINe, a project aiming to create the first collaborative and innovative hub for nonprofit organizations in the Midwest.
Hands-on service projects will be undertaken by several groups, including individual classes of the Meyer Kranzberg Learning Center (religious school), the B’nai Amoona Sisterhood and Men’s Club, Social Action Committee, and Shromrei Amoonim, a volunteer group that provides help and friendship to members.
Dr. Gary Myers is sponsoring the day of service in memory of his wife, Lynn, who passed away on the first day of Sukkot this year, Oct. 4.
“Lynn and I were married for more than 48 years and she was a gifted special educator who cared deeply for everyone, including those individuals with special needs,” Myers said in a statement. “Following her passing, I wanted to honor her, and this Memorial Mitzvah Day is a perfect way to do it.”
