An imam, a priest and a minister walk into a shul…

Congregation B’nai Amoona, Interfaith Partnership and the Jewish Community Relations Council are partnering to hold “An Interfaith Torah For Today Series,” facilitated by Rabbi Neal Rose and held at B’nai Amoona.

The series will begin Saturday, Oct. 26 with Scott Ganser, who received his master’s degree in synthetic organicchemistry from Dartmouth College after a lifelong interest in science and evolution. Shortly thereafter, Ganser found his faith at Bethany Fellowship and began to doubt the veracity of evolution. He served as an elder at Congregation Chai V’Shalom, and at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church in Greyslake, Ill. Recently he received a master’s degree in divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary, and now serves as the Pastor of Kingdom of God Fellowship in Fenton.

The following month, Sister Carla Mae Streeter, Professor Emerita of Systematic Theology and Spirituality at Aquinas Institute of Theology, will speak on Nov. 23. 

In addition to teaching theology and spirituality at Aquinas Institute, Streeter is active in numerous ecumenical and interfaith efforts, including the Interfaith Partnership of Metropolitan St. Louis.

On Dec. 7, Mufti Asif Umar will speak. Born and raised in St. Louis, he completed the memorization of the Quran at a young age at the Institute of Islamic Education, where he also pursued higher Islamic education. Upon graduation in 2007, Mufti Asif continued his education by enrolling in a course to specialize in the field of issuing legal verdicts (iftaa) under the tutelage of the renowned jurist Mufti Ebrahim Desai. 

Asif has served as the imam of the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis since early 2012. He is involved in other organizations including the Imam Council of Greater St. Louis, the West St. Louis County Interfaith Discussion Group, and serving on the cabinet of the Interfaith Partnership of St. Louis.
