Block Yeshiva announces 34th annual scholarship gala

Dr. Noah Susman

Block Yeshiva High School will hold its 34th Annual Scholarship Gala on Tuesday, May 28 at the Doubletree Hotel in Westport.

This year’s program will include a tribute to the late Dr. Noah Susman, a founding president and passionate supporter of Block Yeshiva High School. Dr. Susman was a graduate of Soldan High School and is listed among their “Most Notable Alumni.” He served as Professor Emeritus of Clinical Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine and was former Chief of Radiology at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis.

Susman also served as former president of the Vaad Hoeir of St. Louis, founding member of Young Israel of St. Louis and a former board member of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis. He and his wife, Goldie, have three sons, one daughter and numerous grandchildren.

Rabbi Jason Weiner, senior Rabbi and Manager of Spiritual Care at the renowned Cedars-Sinai Hospital and assistant Rabbi of the Young Israel of Century City, California will deliver the keynote address.

Weiner serves as a Vice-President of the Southern California Board of Rabbis and was honored with the “Rabbinic Leadership Award” from the Orthodox Union in 2011. He is also a member of the Cedars-Sinai Bioethics Committee, the Society for Jewish Ethics, and the Kalsman Institute Roundtable on Judaism and Health Research.

Included in this year’s program will be a fond farewall tribute to William Heyde III—who has devotedly taught English to two generations of young  St Louisans for the past 50 years, and will be retiring this year from Block after 17 years at the school.

Three Block Yeshiva students, Esther Rubin, Eliana Dryer and Yonatan Biel, will provide musical entertainment while students from the freshman class will display original artwork.

A commemorative journal will be produced to honor the event. For event tickets, sponsorship and ad journal information call 314-872-8701, email byhs2@ juno.com or visit www.blockyeshiva.org.
