Join us for Beyond Pink (formerly known as Pink Out) – a morning of exercise, education and wellness – on October 30 at the J’s Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur. The J’s Beyond Pink event honors Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness Months and encourages participants to commit to being their healthiest healthy. This community-building event, organized by the J’s Sharsheret Supports STL program, strives to educate men and women in the community regarding increased hereditary cancer risks by sharing free support resources for someone facing a breast or ovarian cancer diagnosis.

At Beyond Pink, participants can take part in any of the specialty or regularly scheduled fitness and wellness classes offered. The schedule this year, the 6th annual event, includes two new classes, Family Fitness: Staying Healthy Together (a parent/child family class for children ages 6-12) and Training for Life: How To?, which is for anyone looking to restart an exercise regime or begin exercising for the first time.

Community partners will be on-site with information to share about hereditary cancer risks, non-medical financial assistance, clean skincare, nutrition and more. Partners include FORCE, Pink Ribbon Girls, Beautycounter and more. Participants can enjoy complimentary massage and snacks, register to win raffle prizes, and enjoy a health-focused morning with like-minded community.

Sharsheret Supports STL educates the community, especially those of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, regarding the increased tendency this population has for carrying a BRCA gene mutation. One in 40 Ashkenazi Jewish women and men, carries the BRCA gene mutation. This is nearly 10 times the rate of the general population. Women who carry the mutation have up to a 75 percent risk of developing breast cancer and a 44 percent risk of developing ovarian cancer. Men can also carry and pass these gene mutations on to their families and have increased cancer risks.

Beyond Pink at the J is free and open to the public, so put on your favorite workout gear and bring a friend. Pre-registration is requested, and walk-ins are welcome. RSVP at jccstl.com/beyondpink

Please share this event with friends and family to let them know you’re coming to Beyond Pink!
