April 3 closing ceremony set for BSKI building

The Brith Sholom Kneseth Israel building, at 1107 E. Linden Ave. in Richmond Heights, will officially be closed at a special ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 3. The last minyan at BSKI will be held Sunday at 8 a.m.

The ceremony, which is open to the public , will be led by Rabbi Noah Arnow of Kol Rinah. Conservative congregations Shaare Zedek and BSKI merged into Kol Rinah in 2013 to consolidate resources and reverse a trend of declining membership.

Kol Rinah currently operates in the old Shaare Zedek building at 829 N. Hanley Road, though in September of last year leadership agreed to sell the University City building to the Journey Christian church in exchange for one of its buildings in Clayton.

Earlier this month, the Richmond Heights City Council approved a plan for the BSKI property to be developed into a 42-unit townhouse by Atlanta-based Pulte Homes.  Construction of the homes, priced from the upper $300,000s to the lower $400,000s, is set to begin during the second half of this year.
