Published September 14, 2011
The American Jewish Committee will present its 21st Annual Netzach Award to the Rubin Family on Sunday, Sept. 25.
The award recognizes families for whom leadership, dedication and service to the community are a tradition handed down from generation to generation. This year’s Netzach Award honors Mahlon and Maurine Rubin and Ken, Jane, Jessica and Danielle Rubin.
For over half a century the Rubin family has been integrally involved with the Jewish and larger business community both in St. Louis and beyond.
Mahlon Rubin and partners established what has now become the largest CPA firm in St. Louis and among the top 50 firms in the country – Rubin Brown. He has received numerous awards, including Distinguished Washington University Alumnus and the AICPA Gold Medal for national board service.
Ken and Jane Tzinberg Rubin have continued the family tradition, both working in the accounting field, in practice and in higher education. Both also serve on numerous national and international professional and educational committees and boards, and publish in their fields.
Over many years, Mahlon Rubin was active as an officer of Jewish Hospital, Jewish Federation, Temple Israel, Jewish Center for Aged (JCA), B’nai Brith and Jewish War Veterans, for which Maurine also served as Auxiliary President. Following in his father’s footsteps, Ken has served more than eight years as President of JCA, as well as CAJE President, JCC Golf Chair, and on the Federation Board. Jane has served as an officer of CAJE, Hillel, SMDS-RJA, Hadassah, Jewish Light, Federation’s Business and Professional Women and on the North American JCC Board. She received the President’s Distinguished Service award from the St. Louis JCC and both jointly received the Mirowitz Distinguished Service award from Solomon Schechter for their years of service as officers of these organizations. Their daughters Jessica, a Yale graduate now in medical school at Weill Cornell, and Danielle, an undergraduate at Washington University, have continued the family tradition, attending Jewish day school, participating in frequent Israel study trips, volunteering with JCRC’s teen programs and at the Joint Distribution Committee’s Jewish summer camp in Hungary, and presently serving as officers of community health organizations on their respective campuses.
The award will be presented during an event beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Ritz Carlton St. Louis, 100 Carondelet Plaza in Clayton. Event co-chairs are Nancy Kalishman, Harvey Brown and Jack Deutsch.
