Local high school seniors Tyler Andreasson, Claire Lisker and Madison Rinder are the recipients of the 17th Annual Meyer and Marcelle Kranzberg Memorial Scholarship Award, according to the Anti-Defamation League for Missouri and Southern Illinois. Each will receive a $2,000 college scholarship. Finalists are Josh Felsher, Myra Gerst, Zach Heiman, Sam Picus, Ellie Pinto, Gabe Raskin and Jordan Stack. Each will receive a $100 book stipend.
The selection process is interactive and highlights current events on the ADL agenda in the region and beyond; nominees were asked to reflect quickly and respond to a variety of current issues. Adinah Raskas chairs the Selection Committee.
Ken Kranzberg, a member of ADL’s National Executive Committee and former chair of the ADL’s regional advisory board, established the scholarship in his parents’ memory. Members of the Scholarship Selection Committee include Dr. Marc Bernstein, Rhiannon Kaye, Rhoda Kahn Nussbaum, Michele Kopolow, Constance Levy and Mary Ann Srenco.
“Global anti-Semitism is at remarkably difficult levels. Recent violence against Jewish institutions, global anti-Semitism and legal challenges to church/state separation make the need for ADL allies even more acute,” said Raskas in a news release. “We need young advocates to challenge the issues that will inevitably rise in the future. This group has that confidence and that capacity. The Committee loved learning from them.”
