During Memorial Day Weekend, Boy Scout Eli Ring from Troop 803 plants a flag at the grave of his paternal grandfather Frederick Ring, who served in the Navy stationed in Guantanamo Bay in the 1950s.
A 10th grade student at Marquette High School, Eli is the son of Ken and Teri Ring of Chesterfield. He was one of hundreds of scouts to work with the Jewish War Veterans’ local post to plant flags at veterans graves at seven local Jewish cemeteries. While at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery on White Road, Eli also planted a flag at the grave of his maternal grandfather, Max Bretsnider, who served in the Navy during World War II.
