Fox News journalist Lara Logan has a history of antisemitism; though she joined Fox News’s streaming service with a program of her own, “Lara Logan Has No Agenda,” right before the pandemic began, even the conservative cable network — known for its hosts’ outlandish takes — distanced itself from the commentator after she compared CDC director Anthony Fauci to Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele. (Fox News has not announced whether Logan has been terminated, and she claims that many people there want her back.)
Now, Logan is at it again, this time asserting that evolution is a Jewish-funded conspiracy. “Does anyone know who employed Darwin? Where does Darwinism come from?” Logan asked in an episode of the conspiracy theory podcast “And We Know” on Monday. “Look it up – the Rothschilds. It goes right back to 10 Downing Street, the same people who employed Darwin,” she added, connecting the Rothschilds to the home of the British Prime Minister, implying that the Rothschilds controlled the government.
“I’m just saying Darwin was hired by someone,” she added.
The Rothschilds are a famous Jewish banking family commonly invoked as part of a common subset of antisemitic conspiracy theories accusing a wealthy cabal of Jews of running the world. Marjorie Taylor Greene memorably alleged that the Rothschilds funded “space lasers.”
Why Logan cares where the theory of evolution came from is unclear, but her concerns seem to stem from the idea that Darwinism leaves out divine creation; throughout the segment, she argued that scientists couldn’t possibly know where life came from because it’s a “what came first, the chicken or the egg” problem.
“You can’t answer that scientifically, you just can’t,” she said. “Because something made that into being.”
Her statements, criticizing Darwinism and contrasting it with what sounds like Creationism, seem off-topic and like a brand-new antisemitic belief, or at least a new project to ascribe to the imaginary Jewish cabal that is so beloved by conspiracy theorists. But Logan is, in fact, drawing from a well-known antisemitic belief that Jews oppose God and Christianity — ironic, of course, given that the Jewish bible is the source of the creation story used by fundamentalist Christians.
Logan was previously a war correspondent for CBS News and is well-known in part for a discredited report on “60 Minutes” about the Benghazi attack; she was asked to take a leave of absence after the story was retracted in 2013 and never returned to the network.
In the same podcast episode, Logan also referenced her belief in the New World Order, a conspiracy theory that alleges a socialist alternative government has taken over the world everywhere except the U.S. Elsewhere, Logan has alleged the New World Order is run by Jews, blaming them for myriad issues including, “the reason your daughter has low self-esteem and desperately dresses like a whore.”
On the podcast, Logan also promoted the Russian-backed conspiracy that Ukrainian forces are dominated by Nazis; Kremlin-backed Twitter accounts have been reposting her remarks. They seem less interested in her ideas on evolution.
