Alan Schaffer measuring the garden expansion.

With guidance from Gateway Greening of St. Louis, a nonprofit organization that aids over 200 community gardens, Congregation Shaare Emeth has planted and harvested eight raised beds in its Mitzvah Garden. Families have volunteered to water the garden and it provides a safe place to spend time outdoors while giving back to the community.

Lettuces, broccoli, carrots, kale, collards, cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, strawberries, blackberries, tomatoes, potatoes and onions have been planted and all produce is donated to the Harvey Kornblum Food Pantry. The committee is led by Gary Ratkin and Lorry Blath. Volunteers include Stan Shanker, Gary Sherman, Alan Schaffer, Debbie Bram, Allen Brockman and Vicki Schaff.
