Join Kol Rinah for a special Shabbat with Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann on Feb. 14 -15. Heydemann was a 2016-2017 Schusterman Fellow and a 2018 winner of the Lippman Kanfer Fellowship in Applied Jewish Wisdom. She has facilitated trips for Encounter and Honeymoon Israel, and currently teaches for the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning. She is currently a mentor for the 92nd Street Y’s Jewish Innovation Fellowship. The schedule of events at Kol Rinah will be: 

Friday Evening

• 6 p.m. Kabbalat Shabbat in the style of Mishkan Chicago

• 7:30 p.m. Dinner (reservations required-$18/adult; kids free)

• 8:30 p.m. “Competing Priorities, Hard Choices, and Livestreaming: Considerations for Making Jewish Decisions in a 21st Century Community” — Synagogues all over the world are grappling with how to make choices that honor tradition and while also accounting for modern realities. Heydemann will talk through frameworks of Jewish decision making, not necessarily to arrive at conclusions but to open up dialogue about authentic ways of making different choices than we may have inherited.

• 8 a.m. Full, traditional lay-led Shabbat morning service in the chapel 

• 9:30 a.m. Shabbat morning in the style of Mishkan Chicago

• Noon Kiddush

• 12:45 p.m. Conversation & processing of our experiences of Shabbat morning service, led by Heydemann

Heydemann catalyzed the founding of Mishkan Chicago in September 2011. She was ordained by the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles in 2010. Her first job out of rabbinical school was as the first Rabbinic Fellow at IKAR in L.A., a model continued at Mishkan now with the Jewish Emergent Network Fellowship.

Heydemann sits on the board of T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights, as well as the rabbinic cabinet of AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corp.
