Mitzvot from the heart: Solomon Cohen

Solomon Cohen, United Hebrew Congregation
My name is Solomon Cohen. I was born with a cleft lip, and at 12 weeks old I had surgery done from Dr. (John) Mulliken at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. I went through an eight-hour surgery with complete reconstruction on my lip and nostril, and when I was done my cleft lip was gone.
I wanted to take on this mitzvah project because unlike other children who do not have the opportunity to get a cleft lip and palate repair, I was able to get mine done and am very grateful. I need your help in fundraising as much as we can to those in need. All it takes is $240 per child.
Please help bring a “smile” to those who need it most!
This was Solomon’s introduction on his Operation Smile fundraiser page that he shared with family and friends. Son of Abby Cohen and Harry Cohen of Ellisville, Solomon’s goal was to raise enough money to fund 10 operations for those children in need, which comes to $2,400. So far, he has collected over $1,800.
A student at Crestview Middle School, Solomon felt that this was a way of giving back and showing his appreciation and support for such a great cause.
Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity that heals children’s smiles, forever changing their lives. It provides safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.
