Mitzvot from the heart: Samantha Simon

Samantha Simon

Congregation B’nai Amoona

Samantha is on the junior board of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. She wanted the opportunity to be around kids and make a positive impact on their stay.

Daughter of Shelley and Mike Simon of Creve Coeur, Samantha said it makes her feel good to help children who have disabilities feel like a normal kid again. She enjoys seeing them smile and laugh.

The junior board is a volunteer and fundraising group of kids age 18 and under. It meets quarterly, planning events for and with the patients designed to raise their spirits and make them feel more at ease.

Some of the activities Samantha participated in were making Valentine’s Day cards, playing games, doing crafts and movie night. Preparing for the different holidays is important to the patients. Samantha and the other board members decorated the windows and other parts of the hospital for Halloween, July 4th and Christmas.

The largest fundraiser, the Kids Dog Walk, was Samantha’s favorite activity. A student at Ladue Middle School, Samantha helped set up the walk, handed out medals as everyone crossed the finish line and assisted in clean-up after the event was over.

“Everyone likes to be around the animals and they really made the patients feel good,” she said.
