Marion Lipsitz turns 90

MARION LIPSITZ

The family of Marion Lipsitz wishes a “Happy Birthday” to an extraordinary lady admired and loved for her amazing life of giving, caring and doing. With a seemingly endless well of enthusiasm and energy, a resolve to further the causes in which she believes, and a continual bright outlook despite much tribulation, she is an inspiration to all who know her and seek to emulate her.

Marion and Abe Lipsitz married in 1941. Living in St. Louis, she became president of Hadassah in 1956-57 at age 35. Marion worked at the JCA for 43 years from age 47 to 85. While working there, she raised five children and finished her undergraduate degree at Washington University at age 56. Marion has been a life member of Hadassah since 1942 and has made her daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughters life members as well. She is also a life member of The Council of Jewish Women, Jewish Hospital, Brandeis University, and made her husband a life member of The Zionist Organization of America. She was on the board of The Jewish Federation, a member of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, The American Jewish Congress, and the Anti-Defamation League. For the last three years she has been a docent at the Holocaust Museum and for the last five years, she has been back on the board of Hadassah. Marion has been to Israel once a decade since 1951 – 6 trips in all – including a 1970s trip where she volunteered on an industrial kibbutz.

At 90, Marion Lipsitz is truly a woman of valor.
