Two local eateries that specialize in Jewish food have made some changes in their hours of operation.
Deli Divine, the Jewish-style delicatessen and specialty market at 5501 Delmar Blvd. (at Belt Avenue), is now open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the kitchen closing at 3 p.m. When the business first opened in the spring, it was closed on Saturdays.
“People were asking us to be open on Saturdays,” said restaurateur and owner Ben Poremba, whose business is located in the former St. Luke’s Hospital building that also houses Delmar Divine, a hub for nonprofits started by Maxine Clark.
“Initially, we wanted a day off and we thought it would be appropriate to close for Shabbat, not for kashrut purposes because we are not kosher,” Poremba explained. “But people wanted us open Saturday and we wanted the extra business.”
Deli Devine is also getting ready for the High Holidays and will soon publish their new menu of offerings online.
Meanwhile, Kohn’s Kosher Meat and Deli Restaurant at 10405 Old Olive Rd. near Creve Coeur is now closed on Mondays as well as Saturdays. However, Tuesdays through Thursdays, Kohn’s is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., so that customers can have dinner there. It is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays.
In addition, Shelley Hoffman Dean, who works at Kohn’s, will be leading her Rhythm ‘N’ Ruach interactive music classes for caregivers with children up to 6 years old at Kohn’s from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The session runs from Sept. 5 to Nov. 16. For more information and to register, go to https://bit.ly/rnrfall2023 or call 314-494-3245.
