Caramelized Apples and Ice Cream

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

6 Pippin or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and each apple cut into 8 wedges

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon apple cider or fruit-flavored liqueur

1 quart vanilla ice cream

Heat butter in large pan or skillet over medium heat.  Add apples, sugar, and cider or liqueur. Sauté mixture until apples begin to soften and caramelize, about 10-15 minutes.

Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream into 6 bowls.  Spoon some apples and sauce over ice cream and serve.

Makes 6 servings.
