Sarah Sherer-Kohlburn and Benjamin Douglas Singer were married Sept. 3, 2023 in St. Louis.

Sarah is the daughter of Barbara Sherer and William Kohlburn, and the granddaughter of Arlene Sherer (z”l), Martin Sherer (z”l), and David Schnur.

Benjamin is the son of Pamela Singer, Marc Singer and Tricia Wiedemann and the grandson of Arnold Singer (z”l) and Esther Singer (z”l).

Members of the wedding party included bridesmaids Elana Singer Feinstein (sister of the groom), Colleen Hunter (sister of the bride), Susan Esrock, and Kathleen Wang. Groomsmen included John Singer (cousin of the groom), Raphael Feinstein (brother-in-law of the groom), Benjamin Shay, and Seva Rodnyansky. Rabbi Noah Arnow of Kol Rinah officiated.

How they met

Benjamin and Sarah were b’shert, meant to be.

God tried putting them together many times. They both attended summer camp at Camp Ben Frankel and performed in the USY production of “The Music Man” at Brith Sholom Kneseth Israel. Still, they didn’t see the light.

They grew up and re-met after they had both moved back to St. Louis. They shared values and interests in dancing, using law for social good, and musicals, of course. They became good friends…but it took a few years to get the timing right.

When they finally dated, they knew they had found true love and the mutual desire to build a loving family together.

Benjamin proposed on a cold, rainy day in December. He made one of Sarah’s family recipes for dinner, but unfortunately he didn’t fully read the recipe before 6 p.m. Dinner took three hours, but at least they enjoyed dancing around to the playlist he’d made.

Sarah went to change and Benjamin set a candlelit table.

After finally finishing the main course at 10 p.m., Benjamin innocently said, “Let me grab dessert!” Instead of dessert, he brought out Sarah’s cats, Oscar and Mabel, dressed as a groom and bride.

Sarah already knew what was happening.

Benjamin told her: “God has tried putting us together many times, and I never want to leave your side. Will you spend your life with me?” She hugged him and said, “Yesssssss!”
