Emily Beth Singer, daughter of Merle and Dale Singer of St. Louis, and Stewart Lance Mandel, son of Karen and the late Phillip Mandel of Cincinnati, Ohio have announced their engagement.

She is the granddaughter of Nate and the late Thelma Silverman and the late Philip and Alicia Singer, all of St. Louis.

He is the grandson of the late Jacob and Pauline Datz of Boston and the late Ralph and Gert Mandel of Rockville, Md.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of the University of Michigan where she received her B.A. in French and political science and also received her M.F.A. from New York University Film School. She currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. and is a speechwriter for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Her fiancé is a graduate of Northwestern University where he earned his B.S. degree in journalism. He also resides in Brooklyn and is currently a sports columnist at SI.com.

A May, 2011 wedding is planned.
