Alvin Sher and Adrienne Polmer Sher of Chesterfield celebrated their 50th anniversary June 23, 2013. Adrienne, a native of New Orleans and Al, who was originally from St. Louis, met while students at Washington University. They were married following graduation June 23, 1963. Al, who has a Ph.D. in chemistry, took a job with the federal government and the couple relocated to Maryland where they raised their three daughters. Adrienne spent many years as a preschool director at Congregation Har Shalom.

Following their retirement, Adrienne and Al returned to St. Louis, where two of their daughters and most of their grandchildren were now living. In true St. Louis fashion, Adrienne and Al reconnected with their old Wash. U friends and made many new ones. As a celebration of 50 years of marriage, Adrienne and Al and all of their children, Kathy and Dr. Glen Davison, Beth and Andy Mayer and Dara and Jon Miller, and their seven grandchildren took a week- long vacation to Hilton Head, S.C.
