Richard and Horty Levinson celebrate 69th anniversary

While Stan the Man, Red Schoendienst, and Enos Slaughter were bringing in a victory for the Cards down the road at Sportsman’s Park exactly 70 years ago, Horty Strauss and Dick Levinson were beginning their life journey together on a hayride under the crystal-clear moonlit St. Louis sky. The following year they were married on May 3, 1953 by Rabbi Samuel Thurman in the ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel, and shortly thereafter enjoyed their honeymoon in Miami Beach and Havana, Cuba, where Dick tried his best to teach his new bride how to swim. To put it mildly, this did not go well – but fortunately the newlyweds were able to transcend the trauma and have a wonderful time nonetheless.

Now living just outside of Los Angeles in Santa Clarita, California, Horty and Dick remain avid St. Louis sports fans and dog lovers, yet consider their greatest blessings to be their “amazing family,” including children, Ron, Steve, Nancy (Norm), and Jeff (Wayne); grandchildren, Brian (Samantha), Amanda (Chris), Rob (Becky), Lu, Joe, Ben (Ashley), David, Brett (Abbi), and Blake; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, Ayelet, Korbin, Dimitri, Liesel, Maya, Lilah, and Jack.

“Mazel Tov to Mama/Hassa and Grandpa Quack!” the family said.
